Virtual Memory too low Warning Trouble in win xp and vista ?

When there is less physical memory than needed, then some virtual memory (virtual RAM) is created on the disk. When there is a limit set to the size of virtual memory usage and there is not enough of it present there is a warning that frequently comes “Virtual Memory too low”.

Solution 1 :

This problem occurs when physical RAM + Virtual RAM (usually created on hard disk) together are not sufficient to take care of the currently needed RAM size, or this situation is about to arise. This usually happens when some fixed upper limit for Virtual Memory has been set.
To solve this problem, you can either upgrade you physical RAM on your computer (recommended), or you can set the Virtual Memory to system managed size or you can do both. Setting Virtual Memory to system managed size means windows will set it to higher size whenever needed automatically, for this,

Right click on My computer --> goto properties, goto advanced tab, click on performance settings, now click on advanced, now click on advanced, now click on change button for Virtual memory.

On this screen select the System managed size, press OK. After this re-start your computer. This will solve the virtual memory too low problem.

Solution 2:

Recommended solution is to upgrade your physical memory (RAM) according to requirements of the kind of applications that you run on your computer. If you upgrade RAM or not, the following procedure will help prevent this warning by increasing the virtual memory limit.

1.Right click on My computer icon and click
properties.

2.This will show system properties window. Click on a
advanced tab and click on the settings button under heading
performance.

3.This will open performance options window. Click on advanced tab
and click on change button under heading virtual memory.

4.Check if the space available is set to some custom value or
double the RAM size ?

5.If it is not double the RAM memory size , then select the size
option set the virtual memory size double the RAM Size and press set
button
and press OK button.

6.Restart the computer.

Increase Hard Disk speed in Windows

If you like to increase/optimize your Hard Disk I/O - read/write speed without buying expensive software utilities to do that job or changing the HD, just follow next steps. With doing these steps you will increase Hard disk speed (depends of manufacture and specification, but its worth to try). The most speed improvement is visible with IDE drives; however there are reports that this tweak also does good for SCSI disks.

In any case, it won't harm your system, so try it yourself and let me know what you find!

Steps:

1. Run SYSEDIT.EXE from the start & then Run command.
2. Expand the system.ini file window.
3. Scroll down almost to the end of the file untill you find a line called [386enh].
4. Press Enter to make one blank line, and in that line type
5. Irq14=4096 (note: This line IS CASE SENSITIVE)
6. Click on the File menu, then choose Save.
7. Close SYSEDIT and reboot your computer.
8. Restart windows!

The speed improvement will be noticed just after the system reboots, any system info. software can be used to check the improvement.

Ten Steps to a Healthy and Easily Maintainable WAN

1.Have a working modem attached to the maintenance port or console of your
networking equipment, so your maintenance provider can quickly diagnose
problems.

2.Maintain an up-to-date cable diagram and label all cables, wall jacks, etc.,
so that problems can be quickly isolated and cables can be quickly identified
and reconnected should they ever be disconnected.

3.Have WAN circuit info documented and readily available(i.e.circuit-
id,vendor, contact, phone numbers) for sales and trouble calls.

4.Mount equipment so it is easily accessible, front and rear.

5.Have good power. Have your electrician put in ample outlets on a dedicated circuit.
Consider a UPS or surge suppressor. Always provision additional power outlets for
test equipment and for ease of expansion.

6.Don't skimp on cables. Ensure that the cables and connectors you utilize
meet the specifications for the application they are being used in. Never use a
cable that does not meet the specification, even if it works in the short run. In
the long run , you may very well have all kinds of problems. You may save money in
the short run, but lose a lot of time later trying to isolate a intermittent cable
fault.

7.Take anti-static precautions. If the floor in your comm. area is carpeted, install
an anti-static mat.

8.Have a telephone within easy reach of your equipment - this can be a big
time saver in the event of a problem. Testing of WAN circuits often involves
end-to-end tests, and point-to-network tests with the local RBOC and Common
Carriers. These tests require a telephone near the equipment.

9.Try to have your equipment in a dry, temperature-controlled, and well-lighted area.

10.Have all cables and power cords firmly attached and/or tied down. Use plastic cable
tie wraps to secure cables, and to ensure that the strain on the cable ends is
minimized. Always keep cables from areas where they might be walked on, stepped
on,or otherwise damaged. Improper cable strain relief and installation procedures
are a common cause of network failures.

How to set Jumper Pin settings on a CD rom or hard drive

When installing a CD/DVD rom drive or even a hard drive, there are some tiny little pins at the back that sometimes need to be adjusted. If you do not have the jumper in the correct position, your device will not be recognised by the computer.

There are three basic jumper pin settings:
1. Cable Select
2. Master
3. Slave

Cable Select To use this setting you will need a cable select compatible IDE cable. They have a blue end. This will allow you to connect Two devices on the same cable. The cable decides which is master and which is slave. By default the device plugged in on the end of the IDE will be the master. For Example: If you installed two hard drives you will definitely want your computer to boot to the main one with the operating system on it. Therefore that harddrive will be plugged in on the last connection and the slave hard drive will be on the middle connection. The other end will be connected to the motherboard.

Master: If you do not have a cable select cable, set your main hard drive to master.
This also applies if you have two CD Roms.
Slave :Use this setting when you install a second harddrive or cd rom and use the same cable for both.
The main is the master..

Note: Don't put a cd rom on the same cable as a hard drive. But you can have two hard drives together
or two CD roms.

How do you find the Jumper pin settings combination?

Notes:
  • A blue end on the IDE cable means it is a cable select. A normal black one means you have to set the hard drive jumper pins to either master or slave. The blue end connects to the motherboard. Sometimes the connection on the motherboard is blue also.

  • A master gets plugged into the end of the IDE cable.

  • If you wanted to add another hard drive you should have a master and a slave, selected with the jumper pins at the back of the harddrive. However the easiest way is to set them both to cable select. Then connect them on the same IDE Cable( they usually have two connections) but put the main hard drive on the last or end connection of the IDE cable. This way the one connected on the lower is the slave.

  • Now days the default settings are cable select. All new cables, devices, and motherboards are compatible.
